James S.H. Potter graduated from the Eclectic Medical College in 1894, having studied under John Uri Lloyd. Leaving his hometown of Hamilton, Ohio, he moved to Baltimore in 1895, where he established a successful practice. In 1932, he took a road trip to the Hamilton, Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky area, visiting especially the sites of "Stringtown-on-the-Pike." From the description of Papers, 1932-33. John Uri Lloyd was a pioneer in pharmacy, colloidal chemistry, pharmacognosy, and the American materia medica, as well as a novelist and local historian. His most important contributions were in the fields of botanical medicines, and standardization of drug manufacturing. He led the way in developing ethical drugs, and quality in the drug industry.
